Exploring Geographic Topic in a Geography Regents Class
Exploring Geographic Topic in a Geography Regents ClassGeography Regents is a new program that has been designed for students interested in studying an international perspective on American history. A good portion of the program is devoted to the study of several of the countries around the world, including China, India, and the United States. The majority of the class period in the program is spent in an online discussion forum that will be the base of discussions of the globe as a whole.Using a variety of topics, ranging from Canada to China, a student can develop an essay that addresses geography, or geographic topic. A first essay, which is essentially a global geography regents topic, can explore the main issues that come up, such as trade, ethnicity, and energy. An individual essay can explore two to three geographic topics, depending on their interest, as well as giving a short history of each. Many students find that this course has a more complicated structure than it's gener ally perceived to be. It's not quite as easy as it sounds to write an essay that is globally focused. In fact, the primary source of research is from journals and books written by scholars of geography, so it's important to read a variety of sources when composing an essay. When students complete essays that utilize different geographic topic they are given credits for that topic, which can be used for any class or project. For example, if a student chooses geography regents because of its global focus, he or she can use that credit to write an exam on global issues, without needing to repeat that topic in a subsequent geography regents class. Many students find that this allows them to complete multiple classes that focus on a specific geographic topic, thus reducing the amount of reading they need to do.Students find that they will need to perform some research before writing their assignments. When completing one of the geography regents essays, students should do their homework b y reading about various topics in a number of books, magazines, and journals. Students are then provided with an outline of the essay topic that they need to work from, which is necessary to avoid any last minute revisions that could lead to miscommunication.Students who elect to study geography in Georgia will benefit from the many exciting opportunities presented in the program. The geography program will require participants to participate in a number of lively discussion forums, which will allow the student to interact with other students across the country, and possibly to participate in campus and global events. While some colleges provide geographical courses as part of their general education curriculum, few schools have opportunities for an interdisciplinary program in which students learn about geography, religions, science, and G-d. Some of the few colleges that offer such a program are Arizona State University, California Polytechnic State University, the University of Ha waii, and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. A geographical course in Georgia would give students the opportunity to study a variety of subjects and to learn a great deal about the world.
